Disability 101

Acknowledging the Diversity Challenge
Awareness and appreciation of diversity have made great strides over the past decade. Diversity has evolved from being a rarely talked about topic to becoming a frequently used term and, in many workplaces, even a mandated training topic. However, it is still common for people to define diversity by ethnicity, age, and gender. Despite being America’s largest minority group at 20 percent of the total population, people with disabilities are often overlooked as part of the diversity mix.

Talking about disabilities isn’t always a comfortable topic, but the number of Americans with disabilities makes it a necessary one. It is our hope that this site and the Disability 101 modules will help the community better understand—and ultimately accept—people with disabilities.

The modules of Disability 101 are designed to familiarize participants with facts about disabilities, dispel common myths, give helpful how-to guides, and provide resources to encourage inclusion. A new module will be released every week in October, so be sure to check back or click here to sign up for an automatic notification. We are proud to have you as a Disability 101 student. Have a question about what you read or another disability-related question? Submit your question to our disability panel and look for your answer in Module IV of Disability 101! Click here to sign up for instant notification when Module IV is posted.
